Official replica Germany 1974 World Cup jersey.
The West Germany national team was one of 16 nations that participated in the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina. The German team qualified as the previous World Cup winner.
In that tournament, West Germany, as it was known, started with a goalless draw against Poland. In the second match, the German team, which, curiously, played against Mexico, thrashed the Central American team with a score of six goals to nil. In the third and decisive match of that first round, they drew zero-zero, guaranteeing their presence in the next round.
However, things went wrong in that second group stage. The first match was a duel against Italy, which ended in a goalless draw. In the next match, against the Netherlands, the result was repeated: 0-0. Finally, the match against Austria confirmed Germany's elimination. The Austrian team won 3-2 and knocked West Germany out of that World Cup, which Argentina eventually won on home soil.
The Erima logo was seen at the 1978 World Cup. In terms of design, there were no major changes compared to previous models (the revolution came in 1988). As you know, Germany traditionally plays with a white shirt and black shorts.
